I create nihonga (Japanese-style paintings) out of a desire to hold onto the sense of boundless imagination I had as a child, and to preserve the way I viewed the world back then.
Guided by childhood memories and the vague landscapes that exist between dream and reality, my work explores themes of the richness of human imagination, a subtle resistance to growing up, and an affirmation of the time spent quietly daydreaming. While mindful of the narrative qualities found in fairy tales and picture books, I aim to create paintings that warm the viewer's heart.
Furthermore, by treating washi not merely as a surface but as an "art material" in itself—layering it like paper-cutting or collage—I experiment with expressions where different times and worlds intersect. Incorporating patterns and decorative elements, I weave fragments of memories, sensations, and emotions into my canvases.
